Introduction

Although invisible, our sense of smell is critical for our everyday life. Thanks to its relative anatomical simplicity, the olfactory system provides an excellent model to study complex cognitive functions in normal and pathological conditions. My research activity is placed in this context and combines electrophysiological, behavioral and optogenetic approaches in rodents.

I am interested into one particular major cognitive function: attention. My main research project focuses on the neural substrate of attention to odors. Using different techniques in behaving rats, in-vivo electrophysiology and optogenetics, my project aims 1) to test the neural networks involved during a task requiring attention to odor and 2) to test if the respiratory rhythm can support the synchronization of the different actors of the odor attention network.

I am also involved in a more translational and applied project looking at the relationship between respiration, brain rhythms and cognitive performance in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease.
