Mouvement et Handicap
Objectifs

Mouvement et Handicap provides cutting edge motion analysis technologies and custom paradigms and analysis softwares for the  study of  whole body motion and posture, upper limb movements (pointing, grasping,  tapping, drawing, bimanual coordination, tool use, ...) and lower -limb (walking and custom movements) in healthy subjects for basic research.

For clinicians, M&H provides decision tools and assess spontaneous evolution and effect of various therapeutic interventions (ortheses, botulin, physiotherapy, surgery…).

Méthodes et techniques

Two hospital-based laboratory. Recording and processing of 3D multi-joint trajectories and eye movements (Optotrak®, Motion®, Vicon®, EOG, Eyelink®, Visage®), postural response (force plate AMTI®), as well as behavioral responses (touchscreen, keypad, touch pad) were performed. Recording and monitoring of physiological muscular (EMG) and cerebral activities (high-density EEG) can also be investigated. Neurostimulation techniques (TMS, tDCS) can also be applied during human behavior.

Mouvement & Handicap operates in three main domains.

  1. Clinical routine: lower limb kinetics and kinematics parameters were investigated daily through gait analysis along with surface EMG and force plate. Podometry footprints allows the quantification of the plantar supports and measuring the position of the centre of gravity either in static or dynamic conditions. For the upper limb, motor visual field and/or “Handimain” a homemade protocol investigate pointing and grasping movements. These exams provide decision tools for clinicians (orthesis prescription, toxin injection, motor block, surgery…), but are also important to assess spontaneous evolution and effect of various therapeutic interventions (behavioral therapy, physiotherapy, surgery…).
  2. Clinical research: our quantitative assessments are used in numerous clinical trials to assess functional outcome of innovative interventions.
  3. Basic science: we contribute to the design, realisation and analysis of numerous motion analysis experiments aimed at studying visuo-motor coordination, visuo-motor adaptation. Our homemade software allows us to synchronize an external sensory stimuli during the ongoing movement (Target jump, TMS, tDCS,..).
