Abstract:

Reward sensitivity refers to how an individual responds to rewards, impacting motivated behavior and decision-making. Inhibitory control, on the other hand, is an executive function that helps regulate impulses. In the first part of my talk, I will present behavioral and neuromodulation studies that explore how these factors interact in conditions with altered reward motivation, such as impulse control disorders (ICD) in Parkinson’s disease and psychosis.

As humans are social beings, human behavior and cognition are fundamentally shaped by information provided by peers, making human reward sensitivity and inhibitory control prone to be manipulated by perceived social information. In the second part of the talk, I will present fMRI studies in both healthy and clinical populations (addiction) exploring the intricate interplay among these factors. These findings can shed light on potential targets for intervention and suggest the importance of considering further the social context in research and treatment.
